The tow bar is a static mechanical instrument, typically used for trailers, it can be in-built in a truck’s chassis in order to join a trailer to the towing vehicle.
There are three types of tow bars:
- Pin tow bars
- Hook tow bars
- Ball tow bars
One of the most important certifications regarding mechanical-joint devices for trailers, is the European Parliament directive number 94/20/CE of May 30, 1994. The directive’s aim is to establish the requisites that have to be met by mechanical-joint devices to guarantee compatibility, safety and ensure a safe coupling of the vehicles in every driving condition.
